What Is Inbody?

The InBody Body Composition Analysers contain some of the latest technology available for effective, reliable and accurate, non-invasive, body composition testing.

The InBody Body Composition Analysers use bioelectrical impedance analysis with 8-points of tactile electrodes including thumb technology, to analyse a persons body composition as it is on the day of testing. It’s accurate across a broad range of population.

How does the Inbody work?

It measures your body parts individually instead of as a whole- using Direct Segmental Multi-frequency Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (DSM-BIA). It separately measures the impedance (resistance to alternating electric currents) of the trunk, arms, and legs of the body.

This technology is patented worldwide and makes a huge difference to the accuracy of your scan results.

No other body composition analyser machine has 8 separate contact points like the InBody machine does.

How Often Should I Scan?

Every 4 – 12 weeks is a guideline but some people get scans 3 weeks later and others wait 12 weeks or longer. Some scanners may choose to have an annual scan just to keep an eye on things. It’s completely up to you!

If you’re making slow and steady changes, you may not see dramatic changes if you return too soon so it may be best to spread your scans out further.

If you’re in hard training or have made drastic improvements to your nutrition, then you will see more results in fewer weeks, so you could return within 4 – 6 weeks.

If you’re not sure, please feel free to ask us what we would suggest is the best time frame for you.

What Is Visceral Fat?

This is the fat you cannot see in the mirror, but it is the most dangerous.

Visceral fat is located in the abdomen and surrounds the vital organs. It is deep under the surface and lies below the stomach muscles. This is different to the subcutaneous fat, which is the fat you can grab on your tummy.

Visceral fat is a key player in a vast number of health problems including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. Visceral fat can be reduced with a good exercise program and healthy eating over a long period of time.

The InBody scanner gives you a score on a scale of 1 – 20 for how much visceral fat you have. The lower the score the better, ideally between 1-9.

How Can I Ensure The Most Accurate Scan?

We suggest scanning prior to exercise or on a rest day. If you do your scan straight after vigorous exercise then some measures, such as body water will be skewed.

If you are unable to scan prior to exercise, try to wait 2 to 3 hours or again if this is not possible, try to at least keep consistency regarding your scan times.

We also suggest avoiding a big meal prior to scanning. It’s best if you can use the toilet before having your scan.

When you’re having your scan, follow the instructions given to you - but if you can stay still and not talk for about 45 seconds then you’re good to go!

What Do I Wear? Do I Need To Take Any Clothes Off?

The scan only requires removal of your shoes and socks. This is so that the gentle electrical current can conduct through your palms and soles.

We do suggest that you wear lightweight clothing such as shorts and a t-shirt or your gym wear. Wearing jeans is not ideal.

We also require you to remove any heavy jewelry and watches with heart rate monitors.

What If I Am Embarassed or Shy?

Please do not feel embarrassed, we strive to make the experience comfortable for everyone. We have scanned all body shapes, sizes, and ages. Everyone is on a journey and some of you are right at the beginning and we feel extremely honored to be a part of that.

We don’t judge anyone!

Your journey is something to be proud of, but we will always respect your privacy. We do love to share a good progress story, but will always seek your permission before sharing anything personal on our social media.

My Food & Training Has Been Bad. Should I Still Scan?

We highly recommend you scan as soon as you know you want to change your lifestyle or habits. Now is the best time to do it!

In fact, having your scan before you make any changes can be very beneficial, as it gives you an ‘untrained’ baseline and means you can really see the changes you're making throughout your journey.

Who Else Uses The InBody Technology?

The InBody technology is used in most countries around the world. A few key names you may have heard of who utilize the InBody scanner are the LA Lakers, Porsche Racing and Red Bull and Epworth Hospital to name a few.

These elite centres know what it takes to make leading athletes and they choose InBody to easily and quickly assess their teams. It is a key piece of equipment used in the assessment, progress and development of their athletes.

I Have A Pacemaker. Can I Still Scan? What If I Am Pregnant?

Unfortunately no, you can’t.

We would hate to interfere with your rhythm!

It is also advised not to scan when pregnant either, especially in the first trimester.
